Buying a new car this week; have insurance on current car. What covers my new car while I wait for the policy change?

My current insurance is for a 1998 Ford Escort, and I will be buying a 2009 Nissan Altima.

Most policies (but not all) in most states extend the same coverage you currently have to a newly purchased vehicle, as long as you notify them right away. If you don't have comprehensive and collision coverages (those cover the damage to your vehicle) but want it for your new car, you will need to arrange for that with your insurance professional ahead of time. You can shop it first if you want. But I'd check and make the arrangements first.
