Can I use AWD in deep sand, or must I use 4WD?
I want to buy a mid-sized SUV to tow 3500-5000 lbs, commute, and off-road on a beach.

AWD is usually fine in the sand, just like 4WD, provided you lower the PSI in the tire in either application. Sand will swallow you 4WD or AWD or whatever if you're not air-ed down. Just bring a pump to get your tire back to specs after.-Brian
