Even cars that have security chips in the keys can be stolen eventually. Problem is, some of the insurance companies accuse the owner of fraud, when the truth is their car has actually been stolen.

We're doing an article about stealing cars soon on Edmunds.... lots of interesting info... stay tuned for that.

ANYTHING can be stolen! Try and park it outside Yankee Stadium for a couple of hours if you have any doubts.

There is no defense against a determined and intelligent car thief, only a certain amount of temporary deterrence. If you lock it, they'll smash it open. If you alarm it, they will defeat the wiring. If you chain it to a tree, they will cut the tree down and haul it off on a flatbed truck. If you defend the car, they might stick a gun in your face.

I parked my Freelander, right outside Walter Reed Army Medical Center in (North-eastern) Washington D.C. on numerous occasions, in hopes that someone would take it. But, even the car theives know this car is useless. I just hope they recall the whole car, it has numerous safety issues & shouldn't be driven at all.
