Yes it can. If it isnt wired correctly.

It shouldn't if properly installed, and with a quality unit. There is no reason for battery drain. But if your having a battery drain problem now, I would get that corrected first. Bandit.

Yes it can, but it shouldn't. First make sure your battery is in good condition. First make sure your terminals aren't corroded. Then take it to a parts shop (AutoZone, O'Reilly's, Checkers, et al) they can test your battery. If the battery is good, ensure the alarm's wiring is in good condition. Frayed wires can short drain your battery quickly. Finally, if that's not the case, your alarm system might be malfunctioning.

If you have a drain on the battery it will be dead in the morning. To check if the altinator is good try disconnecting the battery positive cable while the car is running (if you get it started). If it stays running with no headlights or a/c on then the altinator is working. Now to check for a drain you need to diconnect the negative (hook the positive back up) battery cable engine, off key off. hook up a test light to the negative cable and touch the negative battery post. If the light comes on then you have drain in the system. Now some system like the clock will cause a slight glow in the test light. Open the door and see if the light becomes brighter? Turn on the head lights and check the brightness of the light, these are normal. If the light is bright all the time, then remove one fuse at a time in till the light go's off. this will tell you what circut is crossed up. then you can see if your radio, car phone, or something like the alarm is installed wrong or if there was a internal failure. It does happen a lot here in Arizona because of the heat during the summer.

I installed and repaired car alarms for years. You always want to try the easiest thing first. Pull the driver dash down, and find the alarm. Simply unplug the unit, and wait for the battery to drain as normal. If it doesn’t drain, then the alarm is your problem.
