Can you replace a DOHC engine with a SOHC engine for a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT without major mods?

Can get a 1995 3000GT SL in good condition with a blown engine. (3 ltre. DOHC) at low cost. I want some fuel economy. Can I replace the DOHC engine with the SOHC engine, automatic. Would like to use it as my daily driver instead of my '97 baby. What are the pros and cons if doable?

You can put any engine in any car if you have the money and the talent or can buy the talent; however this particular conversion makes no sense to me personally. You decrease performance, end up with a car worth nothing, and the fuel economy difference seems hardly worth the trouble.

You could buy an entire good running '95 SL for less than it will cost you to figure out how to do this, and the money you save from not doing it will buy a lot of gas.

One problem you'll face, after you figure out all the mounting issues, is engine management. You'll need the wiring harness from whatever year car you pull the SOHC engine from ?? The only Mitsubishi SOHC V-6 I can think of comes from a Diamante sedan, which, I might add, has the same fuel economy ratings as the DOHC.

Again, this plan makes little sense to me, unless you want to attempt it for fun. But from a $$$ point of view, I think it is a waste of time and effort for a not very satisfying result.

Either rebuild the DOHC you got, or buy a good running SL as a second car, would be my advice to you.
