Yes it will help but very slightly. Figure a 1 to 3% betterment, TOPS. So if you get 20 mpg, with synthetic, if you are lucky, you'll get 20.3 mpg. You'll hear differently but the facts are the facts. Maybe somebody using straight 40W oil in a dump truck in Alaska might notice better MPG using synthetic, but for those of us in the real world, probably not.
On the other hand, synthetic is great protection for an engine and you can extend your oil changes to at least 5,000 miles.
