The passenger airbag light is on in my 2005 Honda Element but no one is in the seat. Why?

That means that your airbag is not on. There is a weight sensor in your passenger seat that lets your Element know when to turn the airbag on.

Everything is fine and dandy on your vehicle.

This is to protect small/light passengers who may be harmed by the airbag if it deploys. The light will go on indicating that the airbag is off if the weight on the seat is not enough to deem safe. For example, if you have a heavy bag - such as groceries, a briefcase or gym bag the light will go on.

Remember though... children should never ride in the front seat.

You may want to check to see that something/someone has not pressed and dented the door panel in toward the airbag. If someone sits in the passenger seat of my Accord the airbag light will some on if they lean really hard toward the door.

Its like Sylvia said, and you can probably fix it by sitting in the passenger seat and turning the car on and off again.
