Engine quits after stability control caution traction control, check engine light and reduced engine power lights on.
6-10k ago my wife was driving with kids on 5 hour trip and reported stability control caution, traction control caution with check engine caution. Then engine and car running extremely rough, even jumpy and undriveable. Pulled over, shut off and reset with only check engine light which extinguished next day. Happened again few weeks later then third time, engine actually turned off. Restarted after a few min. Dealer charged me $150 to clean fuel control.
Next morning garage filled with smoke upon first engine start although I believe probably unrelated then check engine light next day with smoke filling garage on first engine start only. I travel every week so of course this happens when I'm gone. Then wife gets oil warning the following day and dealer says oil 2 qts low? Says engine light left over from last visit and ok to drive. That weekend check engine light again, oil level OK - over serviced actually. Monday morning wife driving to drop kids at school and stability control, traction control, low engine power caution, engine shuts down and fortunately coasts off road. Restart after few minutes but runs rough and shuts down. won't start. I call dealer and he says ok to drive in so I get car. Drive 12 miles to dealership and quits two times on the way with same indications. Second time I was turning into dealership and engine quit while crossing oncoming traffic lane, no steering, power brakes etc. You get the picture, I was almost hit by oncoming car and my car stopped just off road. Mechanic couldn't start car either for about 3-4 min. I'm starting to worry about my family driving this car but the dealership says they found the problem, battery has bad cell and replaced at my expense!
Well, that was yesterday and driving family home from school event, (20 miles after shop visit), check engine light followed by stab, traction, engine low power and engine shutting down. I'm more than a little concerned and have lost faith in the safety of this vehicle.
