Engine undercover dragging

The cover under the front of the engine is sagging and frequently scrapes the ground. Does it have a purpose? Should I have it fixed or replaced?

You are probably referring to the plastic air dam that hangs down under the front bumper. It's made for looks, and to help airflow/turbulence under the car (for theoretical mpg). I've usually found they're not worth replacing if they get damaged, and easier to just unbolt it and take it off. They get damaged/broken if you pull in too close to parking bumpers or curbs.

It protects your undercarriage from debris and damage. So, it does have a purpose.

Would you be okay without it? Ya, probably so.
