Very often this problem is caused by a bad control head. That is the control panel with the little LED screen, in the dash. A Ford scan tool or equivalent is the easiest way to confirm this. Many good independent shops and most Ford dealerships will have this tool. The head, or electronic temperature control assembly is easy to replace, but very pricey to purchase. Best may be to have it professionally diagnosed.
