Hello, my car door got pulled outward at a gas station and it now makes a noise. How can I realign it? Please help!

I recently pulled out of a gas station and the passenger door got caught on something and the front part of the door got pulled outward. It is about a quarter of an inch outward and cannot be pushed in as it is a metal door. Mainly when I open but also when I close the door I hear a loud noise as the door is rubbing on the fender. I greased up the door and it sounds alot better however that won't last as it will return to the same sound once the grease rubs off. How can I fix this? If I go to take it to get repaired will it cost alot of money? The door shuts fine and the only problem is that its pulled outward and its not alligned like the other side and the sound it makes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Car door rubbing can be a big nusiance.

If your not hauling passengers its okay for awile .I had the opposite problen on a van door the fender was pushed in and I forgot to tell the pasenger. It just happeen when they were geetting in but when they got out it made it worst. If I got to it before someone open the door I might have been able to reduce the damage.

So heres what you can do to make it better without taking it to much apart. You said the fender was catching on the door. Probaly when the door opens the front goes in, under the fender, as the door goes out. It will rub now because its a close cleareance that you never relized existed until it got bent.

I would now loosen the bottom of the fender, it has two bolts on the botom under the mudflap. Sometimes turning the wheel to the right gets you a couple more inches to work with. Then remove the two bolts . They are 10mm size usually. Now the fender will flap out away from the car. With a wooden stake of something place it up underneath the fender. This step avoids the door from damaging the fender anymore.

Now you want to fix the door. If your not concerned about looks get a nice heavy hammer and tap the area that is sticking out. I put a couple pieces of masking tape on the area Im going to hit to stop the paint from chipping.Check to see if door will closeand clear the fender. Then tighten the fender back down and align it to be sticking out further than the door when flush with the door.

That should do it without adjusting door hinges on the inside of the door . They are harder to get at and another problem itself.

If other suggestions don't work, you'll have to have a body shop align the door hinges for you. Probably you have stressed and possibly bent the hinges or the door metal where the hinges attach. Sometimes a block of wood and a heavy 3 lb mallet does wonders but you have to know what you're doing.
