How to add an AUX-in into the Hyundai Santa Fe DVD/NAV (LG LAN-8670NH)?

In reviewing the wiring diagrams at http://www.hmaservice.com/ it looks like the XM part of this radio is in a separate module somewhere around the transmission hump. The head unit sends signals like changing channel, and the unit sends text info as well as 2 wires marked audio L and audio R. So what happens if I cut those audio L&R wires, redirect them to a 1/8" stereo jack, and then hook up my MP3 player? Even though the head unit is displaying something XM, the music you hear is coming from your external MP3 player. Has anyone had this crazy idea and made it work?

I'd be reluctant to be cutting wires like that, if only for potential warranty issues down the road. A better solution would be the Scosche FM-MOD01 or 02, a wired modulator that connects between the antenna and the radio. Costs about $50. It has an 1/8" jack that you can mount between the seat heater switches on the lower console. No cutting, just one hole to drill in the plastic.
