    Timing belts last about that long and you were due a new one, I'd suggest an independent mechanic vs a dealer which will save you some money on labor.

    Just checked with a mechanic and the cost is $997.00 to do a water pump and timing belt on a 2000 ford focus. You might as well do both since they are both in a very tough place to get to which requires a lot of labor which is why it is so expensive. If it was easy to get to then the job would cost much less but no so for this car.
