Easy way to check alternator is to vistit your local parts store. most of them offer free battery and alternator testing. It sounds more like a security problem to me though. Is the security system factory or aftermarket? Aftermarket security systems usually include what is called a starter kill function that basically prevents the car from starting while the alarm is armed. These systems have a relitively high failure rate and could be the cause of your problem. If the security is factory then you would probably have a problem with the BCM or something electrical in the car. I would need a more detailed description of the vehicles actions to offer further info though. I need to know what the lights in the dash do when the car won't start and if the accessories still come on when the car won't start.

I agree. I think the security system is sending the ECM a false signal.

Quick way to determine if the Altenator is Charging, place a steel screwdriver or feeler gauge on the center rear bearing cap while the engine is running. If the bearing (shaft cover) is magnetized, and pulls the screwdriver to it .... the altenator is charging. Be careful not to touch the hot wire on the rear of the altenator when doing this test. Keep hands away from Belts & Fan also. I really don't think the altenator is your problem it seems to be related to the security system or the computer. There may be a kill switch that prevents engine from starting when the security system is activated .... Hope this helps ...
