How is the diminished value determined in a newer automobile (2004) after damage, repairs for a trade-in, etc.,?

Progressive Ins. Co. wants documentation before it will reimburse me for diminished value. What's up with that? How do I find documentation? MJB

The best way to establish diminished value is to hire a post repair inspector who can write a diminished value assessment in your area.

Basically they will inspect the repairs to verify that the work has been properly performed and then they will appraise the vehicle prior to the loss and then after the loss. This is how the diminished value is discovered.
