How to replace the washer pump on a 1997 BMW 528i.

I've removed the 10mm nut holding down the reservoir and attempted to lift out the reservoir but too much resistance and am afraid of damaging tank.

You mean the plastic tank for overflow? First you drain the radiator down below the level of the coolant tank, then release the vent on the reservoir cover, then the two screws on top of the cover, then pull the tank up. Then of course you unclip the connecting hose and the level sensor. I think that's about it according to the book.

If in doubt, check for a repair manual at your local library.

Mr. Shiftright, thanks for your response. I'm afraid I wasn't clear though... I am referring to the windshield washer pump and tank, not the coolant overflow.

No you were actually clear enough. I read it too fast.

I'm sorry but none of my books mention how to remove this item other than that it takes 1.0 hr labor to R&R it.

Please let me re-direct you to our own Edmunds Carspace Forums topic on BMW 5-Series Maintenance and Repair. I'm sure some owner there can probably help you out. If not, come back here and we'll try something else.
