Researched a bit (Google is your friend) and found one reference indicating the answer is in your owners manual. But, if it isn't, this is the one that was listed:

On the message center display, hit the Setup button. Select System Check. Scroll until you get to Oil Life. Then there should be a Reset selection.

Sorry if it is vague, there wasn't much out there on the 'net regarding it.

You can download an owner's manual from Mercury if you don't have one - see the source link below.

To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change perform the following via the Message Center :

Step 1. Press and hold the RESET control for 2 seconds and release. Oil life is set to 100% and "OIL LIFE XXX% HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL" is displayed. (since you've put new oil in go on to step 2)

Step 2. Press and hold the RESET control for 3 seconds and release. Oil life is set to 100% and "OIL LIFE START VALUE SET TO XXX%" is displayed.

What is not clear in the manual, and at least to me, was not made clear here, is that you must do what subearu says, then do what steve says. You must press "Setup", then "Select". If you repeatedly press "Select", one of the selections is about the remaining oil life. Wrong place. Press "Select" until you get to "Press Select to Begin System Check". One of the indications you will get is Oil Life. It will say "Press Reset if New Oil". This is where you press Reset. But you have to be quick, because the system will cycle on to something else. You may have to do the System Check three or four times before you catch the right page. Then a reset should solve the problem. Figured this out the hard way, with the help of the information subearu and steve provided.
