I'm looking at a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.9L, 4-speed automatic. A guy tells me he gets 24mph with his 1997. Possible?

This 2001 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.9L, 2WD, 4-spd auto, has 6,800 miles on it. I'm thinking about buying it, but I wonder what problems I might expect to have since it's set in the garage for 2 years. A friend of mine tells me he gets 24 mpg with his 5.9L, a 1997 iwth 256,000 miles on it. I guess I believe him? Anyway, what should I be cautious of when buying a vehicle that's been sitting in a garage for 2 years? And, is it possible to get 24 mph with that engine/transmission combo?
thanks.

Maybe on the highway with the wind behind you going downhill you'll get 24 MPG, but expect to average 16-17 MPG at best. Anytime you buy a used car spend 100 bucks and get a good mechanic to go over everything especially if it sat for 2 yrs. Be especially careful about the fuel system as that might be pretty gummed up from any gas sitting in the system that long. Also, get a Carfax report for 25 bucks and make sure this truck was not in an accident or water damaged. Those will be the best 125 bucks you ever spent trust me! Good luck and be careful!
