I have a 2001 explorer.The power door lock on the drivers side does not unlock

drivers side door does not unlock without rapidly tapping the inside unlock switch on the passengers door.

In Maintenance & Repair > Interior

You'll need to pop the inside door cover to get to the unlocking mechanism. Probably binding or burnt/defective. Chance could be one of the door switches, but you didn't mention different symptoms (like...works with the keyfob, doesn't work with door switch), so it's probably the solenoid mechanism itself.

A common problem on those fords are faulty actuators and they are very easy to replace. I work in an accessories shop and have personally replaced tons of those with aftermarket actuators. They are about five bucks a piece. Now this may not be the problem but it is worth looking into. good luck
