First i would never use starter fluid unless it was an absolute emergency as it will damage valves,pistons,cylinders and gaskets, it would be better to use a squirt of gasoline. An engine needs 3 basic things to operate: fuel, spark, compression. Ok so you know you have fuel, next you need to check for spark, go to auto parts store and get a sprk plug tester, it looks like a sprk plug with a alligator clip attached to it, costs about 5 bucks. Next pull off a spark plug wire, preferably cylinder# 1, or any one will do, insert tool into wire end (boot), clip the alligator to an engine bolt, when you turn the engine over you should see a spark, blue spark=good ignition, yellow spark=weak ignition, no spark=no ignition. hope this helps
