I have a Chrysler PT Cruiser 2004. Has anyone tried to replace the water pump? It's a nightmare.

The oil pressure light came on I changed the timing belt, thermostat, water pump and now I have to replace the camshaft sprocket because it has a hairline crack. I should have taken the entire engine apart I have never worked on anything so difficult in my life I should have taken it to the dealer. It would have worth it no matter how much it may have cost.Should I have the dealer fine tune it when and if I finish the repairs?

Don't feel bad, it is easy to get in over your head with a modern engine and the tight spaces you have to work in. The last place to go is the dealer in my opinion. Unless you are under warranty, they will be the most expensive and least sympathetic. I would go to Car Talk’s Mechanics Files site at http://www.cartalk.com/content/mechx/find.html Enter your zip code and you will get a list of mechanics in your area that other consumers have used and highly recommend. Look for ones that specialize either in the make of your car or the type of repair you need. Call 2-3 of them and ask for a ballpark figure on the repair. I have personally used this site with great success to find good honest mechanics and can highly recommend it. Good luck!
