I am looking for an old American made car

Dear Mr. Shiftright,
I had asked about the last 100% American made car and you had referred me to a couple of sites that spoke about "domestic" vehicles being 75% American made. But I am actually looking for the Real McCoy. I have a feeling they were before the oil embargo of the early 1970's. Most of the cars that have been owned by me and my husband range from 1968 to 1974. I have tried almost everywhere looking for an answer. Your stats on this website seem to impress me that if anyone knows, you would. Thanking you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I don't think there is an answer to this question because how could someone know the origin of every part of a car? There might be 5,000 to 15,000 parts in a car even from the 70s, so how close to 100% can one ever get? I doubt even the automakers could answer this. I doubt if they even know anymore.

it's a very interesting question but also very hair-splitting, almost like saying "when was the last pure Italian" in Italy? That's a lot of gene research you'd have to do---LOL!

The problem is this----IF the American automaker owned all or part of a foreign company, it is almost certain they used something from it--and American companies have owned all or part of foreign companies for decades. Who's to say that Opel didn't make GMs tail light bulbs in 1955? Who would know?
