Where are you at (don't answer if you don't want it known here)? Just curious, I'm in Sequim, WA (about 15 miles south of Port Angeles).
The fees for the trailer depends on the type and weight cap. I checked the web site for you (dol.wa.gov) and it varies to register from $21 for upto 2,000lbs (Ithink) and upto $47 for over 2,0000lbs (don't quote me on that because I got into a discussion with someone before logging back on here and can't remember it all. But I know the prices are from $21 to $47 (plus their user taxes and state ) Check out the dol.wa.gov website.
If I was at the shop I could possibly get the background info but I won't be back until next week. You can put in a request through the DOL for a title search and check.
Good Luck.
