I can buy out my 2006 BMW330Xi that's coming off lease or spend almost the same money on a new VW GTI. Advice?

By the time I buy the extra warranty to cover my BMW for another 3 years, the price works out to be within a $1000 for a new loaded VW GTI with the same warranty. The choice is between a higher quality used car and a new car that's smaller, but still a blast to drive. Any advice out there? The BMW depreciates less than the GTI so it'll be worth more in 3 years. If I go to the GTI, will I miss the BMW?

That is the bummer part of the leasing game, you always are faced with that choice to hold onto your current lease or move on to another. Never ending car payments, but if you are okay with this, then it makes it more simple. Now, the VW is alot of fun! I think you will really enjoy it.
The 2.0T engine coupled with a DSG 6spd auto with manual mode is amazing! Now, you should be able to get a bit better mileage, even better if you not crazy with it all the time.

Now, start off with the pros and cons of moving on to another new lease and keeping your BMW, taking payments, maintenence into consideration. If you are truly happy with your BMW, then keep it. The VW gears for fun! I have heard many say they prefer to drive a VW if they have one in their household. That 2.0T is the same engine they put in the Passat! Its great.

I would say do it, either way your payments could be lower, less gas, smaller car, probably a bit cheaper maintenence. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Now, weigh it all out for yourself. Its what you want, and if you want it bad enough.

If the costs are the same, then it boils down to how you feel in the cockpit. I've driven these vehicles and ended up going with a loaded Volvo S40 because for the price, I was most pleased with the product and the drive. The BMW was shot down because it was about $8k more and wasn't what I wanted. But you are making a personal decision not someone else's decision. I'm in Germany and the GTIs can easily keep up with the BMWs on the Autobahn! I will note that VW is working on a new Golf/Rabbit/GTI that is due in European dealers in October. I haven't seen when it will hit the U.S. (The 2009 models are the same design as the 2008s.)
