I would like to buy a 2006 Cadillac STS. Any problems with this car's motor I should worry about?

Are there any problems with the Northstar 3.60 v 6 motor?

I understand the newer Northstar engines may not have this problem but the earlier ones had a huge problem with oil leaking where the halves of the engine meet. This requires pulling the engine and spending over 4000.00!

Youi might want to "Google" Northstar oil leak and read about this for yourself. This was a MAJOR problem but the 2006's may no longer have the problem.

On an older Cadillac, the "Northstar Leak" can total the car.

GM is reducing the number of Cadillac dealerships from about 1400 nationwide to 400 to 500. So many Cadillac owners will need to travel farther to get to their nearest dealership. In the state that I am in, there will only be 4 or 5 Cadillac dealerships left for the entire state, instead of the 20 or so that now exist. If you live in a bigger city, that won't be that inconvenient but if you live in a small town you may need to drive 60 to 80 miles if you want your Cadillac repaired by a Cadillac dealer for major repairs under any warranty.

The only problem I've heard of is rough idle in cold weather. The Northstar engine is pretty reliable, it's the electronic glitches and build quality issues that you need to worry about. This, along with GM's falling reputation contribute to STS' horrific resale value. Plus the car's a slow seller in both new and used, so unless you're ready to take the hit or planning to keep the car for a really long time then I suggest you to think again.
