I can hear a click noise in park stepping on the brake. Nissan Pathfinder.

Noticed today on my 2003 Pathfinder engine running I stepped out he brake to move selector out of park and I hear a little click near the shifter in the console, after putting the selector to drive, no click and in neutral no click, what's this noise, could it be a release solenoid to get it out of park when you have to step on the brake? I never noticed the click noise before.

Yes, it is the shift interlock solenoid releasing the pin that locks the shifter until you step on the brake. It may need some lubrication, but I don't think it's anything to worry about.

The hole in the shifter housing is to release the lock if it malfunctions. I have usually opened the housing and sprayed a good silicon lubricant all around the mechanism.
