I purchased a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder and have a navigation system. I cannot find the compass display.
owner's manual states its on the rearview mirror but it's not older models made prior to October 2007 have it on the rearview mirror.

It is on the navigation display. Bottom left corner right next to the measurment legend. You can touch it and it will display it different ways. Personally, I preferred it on my RV mirror.

I'd take it back to your salesperson and have them show you. They are supposed to demonstrate all the new features.

As far as the salesmen knowing the car, I must beg to differ. I've been driving Pathfinders for 12 years now and while the 2008 model's great, the salesman really didn't know the vehicle at all.
