I put one tank of gas of ethanol 85 in my 2007 Hyundai. I started it and the check engine light came on. How do I get it off?
I have never used ethanol 85 (and won't again!) I am sure it is the gas, because we have not had any problem with it, it only has 34,000 miles on it. We used about 3 gallons, put regular gas in & continued our trip home. No problems except the check engine light is still on.

Put in a dose of fuel injector cleaner (get a good strong one from an Auto Parts Store) and drive the car for a while. The light may go out, since it's probably signaling a one-time misfire. If it doesn't go out, just have Autozone or Kragen or other parts store that offers a free scan to reset the light for you (if they will). Probably nothing to worry about, but you should attend to it if it doesn't go out after the fuel injector dose and a few days' driving.

You can disconnect the positive battery cable for 5 minutes and reconnect. Have the radio code handy to reenter it once the cable is back on. This should clear the codes. Hopefully, no damage was done by the ethanol and everything will be ok.

Only vehicles specified as FFV or flex fuel vehicles can use E85 - 85% ethanol - and your Hyundai is not one of them. I wouldn't use that junk even if I had a FFV. "Regular unleaded" fuel is now E10 - 10% ethanol. If you live in one of the very few places in the US where they still sell undiluted real gasoline, use it in preference to the E10 gas. You will get better performance and fuel economy and it doesn't absorb water like the E10. Ethanol in fuel was touted as being more environmentally friendly and "independent" - but that is a total fraud. It is good only for ethanol producers and their lobby.

Oh yes, and put in some real gasoline as soon as possible and don't use E85 anymore.
