I think your husband is wrong. As recently as 2009, you could build your own Jeep Wrangler Unlimited online with right hand drive. Lots and lots of postal carriers use postal Jeeps that are RHD and there were 5,000 Subarus sold in the 90s that were RHD and targeted at mail carriers.
It gets a bit tricky going through drive-throughs and toll booths, making left-hand turns, pulling away from the curb, passing on two lane roads and making eye contact between right-hand drivers and pedestrians, but I can't find any state laws prohibiting RHD car in the US.
