Just bought an 01 Ford Ranger 2WD. Periodically makes sound and vibe like warning strips on edge of some Interstate highways. Help.

Brief sound and vibe like running over rough spot in pavement. Lasts only 1-2sec and occurs maybe every 10 miles. Truck is 01 Ranger xlt 2wd with 97k miles. Just purchased. Has Goodrich tires with plenty of tread left. Unknown if any suspension work has been done. Seller provided maintenance records, no suspension work noted.

You might want to have the tire inspected for belt separation.

I doubt it's tires if it's a brief intermittent sound. I would first check transmission and differential fluid levels, and go ahead and change each if they haven't been done in 30K. If the differential is limited slip, remember to use the additive. Another problem with Rangers is the slipyoke on the driveshaft. They sometimes have a problem with binding, and require removeal and re-lubrication with an updated Ford lubricant, sometimes replacement if the splines are worn.
