    Nature of Defect:

    Bulletin Date:
    Feb 2006

The above 2 bulletins refer to the 2006 model 5.7 liter hemi; but it is possible that the problems also took place in earlier models. Of course; it is also possible that your situation is not related to these issues.

I would be very concerned about low oil pressure indications and knocking noises in this motor. It could well mean that major engine damage is taking place, or is soon to happen. Your problem could have come from an oil pressure relief valve that was sticking open, and was dropping the oil pressure below the safe range. An oil pressure relief valve which sticks that way might free up after the engine warms up and is then restarted.

If it was my car; I would promptly take it in and have the oil pressure measured by connecting a mechanical oil pressure gauge (to several dfferent points on the oiling system; if possible). If the pressure is below specifications; see whether the oil filter might be defective, or is the wrong model; or the oil level is very low, or the oil is contaminated or the wrong grade. If there is no problem there; I would have the oil pump and pressure relief valve removed and closely inspected. This is not something which can be ignored. The cause must be determined and corrected; before it goes any further.
