jwilliams is correct that there were no factory AMG SL models during those years and that most likely someone just stuck on an AMG badge.

However there may have been dealer installed AMG packages which were mostly cosmetics such as body kits, grilles, and wheels.

You have a 91 SL300 with an AMG badge stuck on it. SL is the model, and AMG is a high performance tuning company (now owned by MB, but seperate from Mercedes-Benz in 1991). AMG makes high performance models, very expensive. In 1991 MB made the SL two ways, the 6 cylinder SL300 and the V8 SL500. They did not make a AMG version.

Some people stick AMG badges on their Mercedes thinking it makes it special.

AMG is a private co. used by MB for performance.Any model of Benz can have the AMG package. For ex., You can buy an SL with or without the AMG package, or any other Mercedes for that matter, such as C63 AMG, an S550 or an S550 AMG
