    I think 0171 and no overdrive might be related, yes. First thing I'd do is have the MAF cleaned thoroughly and check for vacuum leaks in the manifold and surrounding hoses, and then see what happens.

    The dealer is on the right track but seems inclined to do a shotgun repair and replace everything.

    Also possible---some Lexus have a temp control for overdrive so that it doesn't go into overdrive when the engine is too cold. The OD seems to be protected a number of different ways. Always good to consider all the possibilities. The codes are a good start but far from infallible.
