No that doesn't sound right.

You are supposed to use only 2WD or 4X4 full time on hard dry surfaces. If you are in 4X4 part-time, that's no good for dry roads.

Otherwise--since we really don't know where this noise is coming from, and seems related to steering, you might check other possibilities, like a loose power steering belt or low fluid level, and also bad wheel bearings on the opposite (left side) front wheel.
