My 2006 Monte Carlo is stuck in park with the key in the ignition. Car starts but can't get it out of park. Key stuck.
moved the car just fine and left it in park for about 2 minutes. Then went to drive and couldn't get it out of park. The key will also not release. The car starts just fine but the shifter will not shift and the key will not come out.

Possibly a brake-shift interlock acting up? This prevents shifting from park until you press the brake pedal. Usually you can hear the solenoid click when you press the brake pedal (while the engine is on and the vehicle in in park). There is always a work around for a malfunctioning brake-shift interlock. It is explained in the owner manual. You find the access flap on top of the steering column, flip it open and depress the manual switch to release the solenoid. In the meantime, if you're under warranty still, you can get it checked out, but I'd wager it is a fuse or the solenoid itself or even the switch on the brake pedal.-Brian
