My 93 bonneville has 102,000 mi. & the other day my brake lite came on & stayed on & the pedal got real loose.Any?

I was driving the other day & it seemed as if all of a sudden my brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Then my brake light came on & it stays on. I'm really scared to drive the car to a shop because i dont know if the brakes will go out or not. There seemed to be no warning signs before & no type of squeaking noise or grinding. I had just come from a car audio shop to get my radio checked out & i noticed this problem after i left. I dont know if that has anything to do with this but i'm very concerned. The car has 102,000 mi. & is in normally runs great. I just put a brand new battery, alternator & water pump in the car. I thought that if your brakes are going bad it normally gives you warning signs?

It would make a noise if the pads were worn down, but there are other types of brake problems that may not give any warning. For instance, if you had a flexible brake line to the wheel start leaking or break, it would not give you any audible warning.

You should check the level of fluid in your master brake cylinder, to see if it is low. If so, you undoubtedly have a leak some where, and just refilling it will not make the problem go away. You're going to have to get the car jacked up, with somebody taking a look at all 4 brakes to see what is wrong, as well as see if there is fluid leaking anywhere.

If you get in the car and have no brakes while sitting there in park, you should not be driving the car at all. Have it towed.

Did the store install components in your car? Its very possible they damaged a brake line by drilling a hole for an amplifier or something like that. Fluid is leaking out - big time. Fill the MCyl and pump the brakes, you should see a large puddle of fluid. If you are not pretty handy and have it already where you can work on it, I suggest you pony up and get it towed, its a dangerous death-trap to drive w/o brakes working correctly. Many car insur policies will cover towing from breakdown. The audio shop should cover the repairs if they did damage them
