My 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't start. Purchased new battery and starter. Won't turn over and voltage gauge registers 0.

I replaced the starter and purchased a new battery for my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited now it wont turn over and I noticed that the battery gauge doesn't register a voltage. The fuel pump doesn't come on and that was replaced last month. What could be the problem? The interior lights and horn works along with the radio.

You might check the battery cables for tightness and good grounding on both ends of the negative cable, and also check for a blown in-line fuse (fusible link) coming off the positive cable and running along the inner fender well.

Also sometimes new batteries off the shelf are in fact dead or nearly so.
