The 4wd light blinking means there is a fault in the 4 wheel drive circuit.
If you put the vehicle into 4wd, does everything work properly?

When was the last time it was put into 4wd?

In order to determine where the problem is, a scanner capable of pulling codes for the drivetrain will be required. You might try checking with a part store (ie; Schucks, AutoZone, etc.) or transmission shop ( AAMCO, etc) and see if they can pull any codes. Let us know what codes they retrieve, if any.

If we have the fault code numbers, we may be able to provide more info.

My 1995 Explorer was doing the same. Found out that when the radio was replaced, the installer forgot to plug the 4x4 control switch back together. Pulled the radio and bezel, plugged the switch back together and ask is well.
