I've been noticing this alot lately. The TPS is the throttle position sensor. It sends a signal to every part of the vehicle. This sensor new sends a steady signal that detriorates with age but still functions somewhat as time goes on. You might first notice it in the way the cruise control works or varies. When the TPS gets to the point of being unable to idle the vehicle it's way past time to change it. 35 dollars and two torx screws and about 15 minutes and you won't believe what joy a fine running machine will bring you.
