I don't know about the spare, but you can download a free owner's manual from Mazda according to How To Find Your Car Owner's Manual Online.

No need to download anything Steve. As a owner of a 2004 Mazda MPV myself... I may be of assistance. The spare tire is kept underneath the van, about in the middle. The tire hoist mechanism is inside the van, located directly in front of the passenger side middle row captains chair. There is a flap cut out that you need to pull up. The tools needed to use the tire hoist are in the back of the minivan, where the tire jack is kept.

You access the spare tire by going to the outside passenger side of the van, between the front and second row seats... taking out about three screws that are located on about a 2 foot long by 4 inch wide piece of paneling...along the bottom of the van. Once those are out it slides all the way out like a DVD in your computer.

You then use the hoist mechanism to lower the spare tire, lift the tire up and rotate metal restraining brackets to the left or right, tilt spare tire at a 45 degree angle, and it then should drop off. Good luck.

when Mazda put the rear seats that fold into the floor they needed a new place to hang the spare. its in the center of the vehicle inbetween the 1st and second rows of seats. there is a plug in the floor on the inside that you pop out and then use the lug wrench to lower it down on a cable underneather the van.
