    This is usually caused by a bad flasher unit; which is a simple plug in replacement. Some older vehicles use two flasher units; one for the 4 way emergency flashers, and the other for the directional signals; so you need to make sure you replace the right flasher. The esay way to see which flasher you unplugged is to then try the 4 way flashers and the blinkers and see which one still works.

    The other common cause of intermittent blinkers is either a broken ground wire from the light housing to the body, or rust, paint, or corrosion on the body panel where the light assemblies mount.
