    I suspect you have a bad vehicle speed sensor (VSS). Newer cars like yours no longer have a speedometer cable but rather use an electronic sensor attached to the transmission or the rear differential. The VSS not only controls the speedometer but also some other functions like the transmission shift points, the cruise control and ABS brake system. You should first go to your mechanic or local auto parts store and have them hook up an OBDII scanner to the car and check for any fault codes. Most major auto part store chains like Auto Zone and NAPA will do it for free! This will tell you if any specific parts, sensors or modules are malfunctioning. It will save you hundreds of $$$ if you know what is wrong before replacing a lot of expensive parts. A code P0500 means that one or more of the following has happened:

    · The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly

    · There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor
