Replaced Explorer's brakes but now they are grinding. Why?

I replaced the front brakes on my nephew's 2000 Ford Explorer XLT including rotors. Now the brake pedal feels like it's grinding or vibrating. I took it all apart and checked to see if there was something loose but nothing found. Did I miss something or is there a trick to correcting this problem?

Grinding and vibrating are two different problems.

If it really is grinding, then you have metal on metal somewhere and you should get it figured out. Assuming it's not brake pad backing to rotor (since you just replaced the pads), then I'd look for caliper to wheel interference. Look for obvious signs of rubbing somewhere, and if need be turn the rotors by hand (while vehicle on jack stands), to see if you can find the source. You may have to put a couple wheel lugs on to hold the rotor in correct position.

A vibration is typically caused by a warped rotor, due to overheating and aggressive driving. The fix for this is to just replace the rotors.
