Sales tax on new cars in NY

For a resident of Indiana if I buy a new car from an authorised dealer in NY can I avoid paying sales tax in NY. Drive the car to Indiana on dealer supplier transit plates and then register it in Indiana & pay sales tax at that time ?

Yes, NYS only collects tax on vehicles when they are registered. You will likely need to pay for the NYS Transporter/Temp Tags but they won't tax you.
