Should I report an accident with no discernible damage?

Car in front of me started turning right at an intersection. Stopped halfway through for no reason. I was behind her, not expecting her to stop so I rear-ended her car. I was going under 5 mph. We pulled over and looked at both bumpers. There was no discernible damage (I took photos). She agreed it was not dented but then said somebody else had recently hit her so she wanted money to have her bumper painted. Because I thought she was trying to scam me, I did not admit fault but said I wanted this to go through insurance. Any ideas on how to report this?

Wow, a good question. Myself, I would advise my insurance. I'm sure they'd rather hear from you first then hear from her later. Then again, if she doesn't call then it never happened.

I can tell you there may still be damage, especially to your vehicle. A friend of mine had a Mustang that showed no visible damage in an accident similar to yours. But she heard noises. When I looked underneath I saw sway bar bolts popped and bent and broken plastic pieces underneath the vehicle, as well as other damage. The outside of the vehicle once again looked flawless.

So it's your call. Hopefully others will chime in. Also check with the local police as accident reports are sometimes required and other times they're not.
