Subaru Legacy transmission swap- 1993 into 1995?

I have a 1993 Subaru Legacy auto tranny from Japan that I would like to install in my son's 1995 Legacy. I know they were compatible from 1990-1994, and I have installed the 2.2l motor in the 1995 from an older one. Just wonder if the transmissions are interchangeable as well????
thanks so much to anyone out there with this knowledge! Jim

Actually, you guys are gonna have problems. I've done this and there are a lot of little differences in the wiring harnesses for the 4EAT transmissions from year to year. It will bolt up w/o a problem, but I'm not certain that it'll work flawlessly. The TCU interacts differently, and the '93 is a different generation from the '95. The differentials are also going to likely be different Subies use: 3.90, 4.11 and 4.44 in their NA cars over the various years.

The tranny swap should work. All subaru legacies with a 2.2l H4 motor from 1989-2001 have the same EJ22 engine. Since it was the same engine from 1993-1995, the transmission should be the same as well. Good luck with your tranny install!

Oh, one more thing
as long as you didn't go from the turbo or vice versa, the transmission should bolt-on perfectly fine. If you did switch, there might be some problems but I'm not sure.

It should still bolt on but I just thought that the difference between the NA and the Turbo should be noted

thank you so much aznraptor. There is no turbo involved so should be a clean swap. Guess my only problem now is to determine what the differential in this Japanese trannsmission is- to see if it will match the rear differential in the car. Any ideas???? thanks, Jim

The diff should be the same too.
To make the USDM 2.2 liter, they basically just increased the displacement of the JDM 2.0 DOHC engine. If that's the case then all the transmissions, differentials, and etc. should all be the same.
