TSBs and Recalls
What's the difference between a TSB and a recall? Someone told me there is no difference, but that can't be true.

TSBs are usually messages to delaerships to warn them that a certain part of a car might not function totally well. It's usually paid for out of your own pocket and not a serious defect. Recalls are the problem is serious and the manufacturer pays for all repairs/updates necessary

If the vehicle is under warranty during the TSB than the factory pays for the fix

The TSB or technical service bulletin is how the manufacturer communicates various changes in procedures or fixes associated with their vehicles. Before the internet age owners had no knowledge of TSBs. Recalls are safety related where the manufacturer identifies safety issues with your vehicle and will notify owners to bring their vehicle in to have the required repair made at no charge. You are correct. They are not the same.

TSB's are repairs the dealer or repair shop does to correct or update a problem. Recall's are when that problem has injured or killed someone. Simple to remember it this way. In fact just yesterday (5-8-2008) someone threw out their recall notice for their Ford truck and it caught on fire and burned their house down. Call your local dealer give the the VIN number or your vehical and they can tell you if there are any TSBs or RECALLs to be performed. 77civic
