Thanks for your response to my RAV4 mileage question. Please see below.

I live in the mid-Atlantic region. While it's not warm, it's not all that cold either. I guess we've been averaging 30-45 deg F this winter. It's been pretty mild for here. I don't know whether they change the gas in winter around here.

The majority of my trips are less than 10 miles (round trip), and I don't wait for the engine to warm up because I thought idling suppresses the gas mileage performance. Should I do that, at least in the morning? In any case, it performs worse than I'd hoped even on long highway trips.

Any additional input will be appreciated.

I'm not a big fan of waiting for the engine to warm up. I've always started the car, put the seatbelt on, and then take off. I don't believe that anything more than 30 seconds is of any help. Some disagree.

30-45 degrees will get you lower mileage than 60-70. That and your short trips are probably the reason why your mileage is so poor. I'll bet you will see an improvement when spring gets here.

while letting a car warm up as the temp aproaches 0 is a good idea, modern cars warm up fairly quick. My own Jeep has a climate control and even at 0 the fan starts to blow warm air after a few minute. I tell my wife to wait for the fan before driving. At temps above freezing there is no real advantage to letting it get to normal operation temp before driving.
