The open door warning light on my 1997 Geo Prism stays on when all the doors are closed. Please advise.

The door open warning light stay on when all the doors are closed. It went out once and came back on and won't go out. I have checked all the sensors at all doors but the light still won't go out. The car is too old to take to the shop for repair. Is there a fuse that I could take out to make this icon go out? Thanks.

I think you're going to have to remove and test each door switch and find out which one remains "open". A simple continuity tester can do this.

I doubt pulling a fuse would help because no doubt other items are on the fused circuit, so you don't want to permanently lose your interior lights.

I guess you could also try to access the warning light itself from the back of the instrument panel and disable it---although it's a rather handy warning to have and I don't recommend you disable it for safety reasons.

For future reference, if anyone else has this problem I finally found the answer accidently. It seems that the bulb in the inside dome light was not seated between the contacts and every time I turned the dome light out, the door open warning light would go out. I don't know how those two items are inter-connected in the electrical system. So, it was simply a matter of removing the dome bulb and reinstalling it properly. The door open warning light went out immediately. I tested it several times and it is working perfectly. I don't know what even made me reach up and mess around with the dome light but it was the cause of the problem. Simple fix to what I thought was a complicated problem. The Prism has 141,000 miles on it and runs like the day I bought it new 12 years ago and it looks really good as well. It's been a perfect car with NO mechanical problems.
