It might be worn out, given that both ignition and trunk locks don't work with it. Have you tried a spare key?

i was given a spare key when i bought the car but the previous owner said it was no good and they had it all taped up i suppose so they would always know not to use it for some reason. however, i did untape it and i tried it, it doesn't work in the ignitation but it will open the trunk. maybe it is the spare that is meant only for the trunk. i read about that today.

There's no 'trunk only' key, the 'valet' key is made to work in the ignition only, keep the valet guy OUT of the trunk. Did the regular key used to work in both the ignition and trunk?
